View full detailsDiesel Exhaust Fluids (DEF) such as AdBlue and AUS 32 are urea based fuel additives aimed at reducing nitrous oxide emissions from diesel engines. Such additives have been gaining in popularity in Australia as emissions standards tighten particularly in the trucking and heavy machinery industries. The AdBlue is not added to the fuel tank like other additives but has its own AdBlue tank on selective catalytic reduction (SCR) equipped vehicles. The AdBlue is injected into the exhaust gas stream where it acts to reduce vehicle emissions. As a rule of thumb the consumption of AdBlue is 4-6% of total diesel fuel consumption.
AdBlue or diesel exhaust fluids come under standard ISO22241 which governs the constituents, mix and quality. The primary ingredient is urea, chemically (NH2)2CO, and is present as 32.5% of the final solution. However, the Adblue standard allows for 31.8 to 33.2% urea mix. The remainder is deionized water with very limited trace elements. This mix is chosen as a ~30% urea mix gives a low crystalisation point of -11oC
How does AdBlue reduce NOx emissions? AdBlue is introduced to the exhaust gases within the exhaust system for SCR vehicles. Due to the high temperatures the ~68% water is turned into steam and discharged along with the exhaust gases. The urea is thermally degraded to form ammonia and isocyanic acid via the follow chemical formula:
Urea (NH2)2CO + Heat = Ammonia (NH3) + Isocyanic acid (HNCO)
The isocyanic acid undergoes further chemical reduction to Ammonia and water as per the following chemical equation:
Isocyanic acid (HNCO) + Water (H2O) = Carbon dioxide (CO2) + Ammonia (NH3)
These reduction reactions ultimately provide ammonia to the hot exhaust gas stream where it can act to reduce NOx emissions. Ammonia reacts with the NOx and oxygen to form Nitrogen gas (N2) and water.
Using the example of Nitrogen monoxide or Nitric Oxide (NO) the total reaction is as follows:
2x Ammonia (NH2)2CO + 4 Nitrogen Monoxide NO + Oxygen O2 → 4x Nitrogen N2 + 4x Water H2O + 2x Carbon Dioxide CO2
While many reactions occur in this reduction process the end result is the NOx is turned into elemental Nitrogen, which is plentiful in the atmosphere and harmless, and water.
AdBlue or DEF, being urea based requires specialized equipment for liquids handling and transfer. Urea and carbamates are corrosive to many metals, especially aluminium, and even low grade stainless steels. For transfer and storage of AdBlue high grade polyethylenes are recommend with EPDM or similar hosing along with Viton or other chemically sound seals. I've struggled to find something that will clean the pavers on the front patio (which get coated with dust/dirt) efficiently and also have a large timber deck that I like to keep clean. This unit did an amazing job on the pavers - better than I could have hoped - and a very good job on the deck (it was a lot cleaner to start!). I didn't use any detergent, so may well be able to do even better next time. Highly recommended.
Just screed two pads to work with manually and then put the power screed on. 20x faster than a manual screed and much better on your back! The wider the blade on it the better ! Leaves a great finish that you can just watch and wait to put the troweling machine on. The vibrating action brings out most of the bubbles so bull floating is pretty much a waste of time.
So quick that the engine hardly warms up until the slab is over 150m2.

The Scintex Hyd Assist PTO driven post hole digger is a well-constructed, heavily built machine. It requires experience with 3PL, PTO driven machines to hook up or dismount by one person, but can be done. The hyd assist similarly requires some getting used to but then really adds to the digging capability in tough conditions. Most times though the weight of the digger will be enough. Impressed by the relatively small effort it requires of the tractor to get the digging done (based on 12 inch holes 800 deep). Very happy with it.

Arrived promptly. Working perfect and doing the job.
I like bought the compressor with air tank and it came with everything I needed to install the kit. The only problem was the instructions were a little vague but other then that the kit was great.

After spending $7500 on a solar mono pump that lasted for 6 years with 2 rotor and stator replacements at $1100 a set. I was questioning the viability of submersible pumps in a river that floods. In the end the pump and motor were still ok but the sun buddy controller died and they wanted another $1600 to replace it.
Decided to try this jobby. Admittedly has 10% the flow of the previous pump(250w), but so easy to install, ran perfectly until the pump got buried in sand in another flood, but super easy to replace stator and rotor and get it going again. Very good value for money.
